ARTIST'S STATEMENT

My paintings are born from a deep conversation with the land. I am drawn to places that hold silence, memory, and a kind of spiritual gravity—winter fields that breathe in stillness, desert mesas that hum with ancient light, flowers that open like small universes. These landscapes are not just subjects to me; they are companions, teachers, and mirrors.

The desert, especially, lives in my work. After standing in Abiquiú—where Georgia O’Keeffe carved out her own life of clarity and independence—I felt something shift. The wide sky, the bones bleached by sun, the way color becomes its own language… all of it continues to echo through my brush. I paint to honor that pull, that longing, that sense of belonging to a place even from afar.

I work slowly, in layers, letting each piece find its own breath. I return to recurring symbols—fences, paths, clouds, trees—because they mark thresholds between what is known and what is felt. My aim is not realism, but resonance. I want the viewer to feel the hush of snow, the heat rising off red earth, the quiet presence of a solitary tree, the wild gaze of an animal meeting your own.

Ultimately, my art is an invitation to pause. To listen. To remember the places that shaped you, the ones you long for, and the ones that live inside you. My hope is that each painting offers a moment of connection—to beauty, to memory, and to the landscapes that call us home.

I am a painter shaped by place, by memory, and by the quiet power of color. I grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, surrounded by rolling fields, old stone houses, and the echoes of the region’s artistic lineage. Those early landscapes taught me how to look closely—how light shifts, how seasons breathe, how a place can hold emotion. My studies at Bucks County Community College, Moore College of Art & Design, and Berkley Graphic Design School gave me the tools to translate that way of seeing into visual language, eventually leading me to launch my first creative business in 1997,

 Hawk Graphics, Inc.

For more than twenty years, I worked in graphic design and signage, refining my sense of composition, clarity, and storytelling. But everything changed in 2006 during a trip to Santa Fe. Standing in the vast desert light, I felt something open in me—a pull back to painting that was impossible to ignore. When I returned home, I picked up my brushes again, and the work that followed became a conversation with both the land and my own inner landscape.

Color became my compass. Bold, expressive, unapologetic color. At first, I painted with precision and detail, trying to make each image speak. Over time, my work loosened, breathed, and shifted into something more intuitive—more about movement, atmosphere, and emotional truth than realism. The Southwest, especially New Mexico, continues to shape my palette and my sense of space. Its clarity, its silence, its expansiveness live inside my paintings.

In 2011, I expanded my creative world by founding Hawk Painting, offering interior painting, design, and color consultation. This work keeps me connected to contemporary design and deepens my love of expressive surfaces. Whether I’m painting a canvas, transforming a room, or guiding someone through color choices, I bring the same sensitivity, curiosity, and reverence for beauty.

My paintings are, at their core, invitations—to pause, to feel, to remember the places that have shaped us. They are love letters to the landscapes I carry within me and the ones that continue to call me home.

MY MEDIUM

MY INSPIRATION

MY BIOGRAPHY

My love for paint is a devotion that stretches across every medium I touch. I began my creative path as a Graphic Designer, and those early instincts—composition, rhythm, intention—now breathe quietly through my oil paintings. But oils are the ones that call to me. They are nothing like house paint or the finishes I brush across furniture

My love for paint is a devotion that stretches across every medium I touch. I began my creative path as a Graphic Designer, and those early instincts—composition, rhythm, intention—now breathe quietly through my oil paintings. But oils are the ones that call to me. They are nothing like house paint or the finishes I brush across furniture. They are soft, lush, and alive beneath my hands, opening a slow river where my thoughts can drift onto the canvas. And on that canvas, the inner world I carry—its colors, its memories, its quiet storms—finds a place to rise and take form.

My inspiration rises first from emotion. When something stirs me deeply, I feel compelled to translate that feeling into paint and offer it to others. My inspiration rises first from emotion. When something stirs me deeply, I feel compelled to translate that feeling into paint and offer it to others. Among all the places that have moved me, New Mexico remains my greatest muse. I’ve returned to the Land of Enchantment more than twenty times, drawn again and again to its endless horizons and that impossibly rich blue sky. Santa Fe’s art scene—alive with color, whimsy, and fearless expression—opened something in me. It was there that I found my true color voice. Before those journeys, my work was tight and detailed, bound by a precision that quietly constrained me. But the desert loosened my hand. Its light, its vastness, its spirit invited me to paint with brighter colors, with movement, with freedom. I return as often as I can, knowing the land will always offer me new breath, new vision, new fire..
